Do you know the benefit of BABY MASSAGE ?

( Enjoying My body Massage)
(BB zoe: Don't envy yo.. really nice .. OooOOOoo.. Love it! )

An article to share by Mama Zoe

Baby massage is something with which most of us are aware of. What I am trying to do is to give another angle to what is known about baby massage.

Many cultures have used massage as part of baby care for centuries, and research shows it can have many benefits. Not only does massage enable you to learn about and respond to your baby's body language. But it is also a wonderful way to make your baby feel safe and secure by showing that he or she is loved and cared for. There are no hard and fast rules for baby massage, other than to ensure you are doing it safely.Your
first year baby and you will discover together what works best for you both. Please bear in mind that massage is something you do with your infant, not to your infant.

It is strongly suggested you seek guidance and education on massage techniques from a qualified baby
massage therapist, midwife, or other health care professional to ensure you are doing it safely. A ten minute massage, two or three times a week assists in strengthening the parent-infant relationship, babies love it and it can assist in alleviating baby ailments too.

In today’s society, parents have heavy workloads and both their jobs and at home which can directly affect quality time spent with children. Infant massage, an age old tradition, is simple, free, can be administered almost anywhere and has a host of emotional and physical benefits for both parents and baby. A child with a strong sense of attachment is more likely to grow up confident, assured and happy. The parent-infant attachment is rooted in the very early months of life, so by its very definition infant massage has a deep effect on the emotional well-being of the infant and can be used to attain a sense of security for the growing child. The emotional benefits of infant massage, such as quality, one-to-one loving touch, can also be experienced by fathers.

No one here has time to spend on useless stuff .You are going to read this post about baby first year and if you read it carefully, you are sure to gain valuable information about baby massage. The task of developing a regular and restful sleep pattern for a new baby is often
an exercise in frustration and confusion for many parents. Research has shown that hospitalized infants grow more rapidly when correctly massaged. This is due in large part to the fact that massaged babies actually spent more time being quiet and calm, yet alert, and that when they did sleep, it was deep and very restful. This resulted in a more structured sleep pattern, as well as longer sleeping periods at night.Doing a massage right after getting home from work will help a parent reconnect with baby after a hard day, and will help both baby and parent relax and unwind.

Once you and the baby have developed a routine you will have a skill that will calm and quiet your upset child. There will be times when this is just what is needed; not food, not a fresh diaper, but soothing, relaxing touch that a parent can give their little one.Even when circumstances cause a change in their routine or environment, a daily massage can be the hub of your baby’s nighttime routine and the element that helps them prepare to fall into a deep, restful, restorative sleep. In addition, learning to relax in our busy world is a skill parents need to nurture for themselves as well as for their children. Studies indicate that the positive effects of practicing infant massage are just as profound on the parent’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being as they are for baby.Infant massage has also been shown to positively benefit those infants with eating, gastrointestinal, bonding, attachment, weight gain, overall development challenges, which can also affect a baby’s overall sleeping patterns. Massage also helps infants learn about their body and stimulates brain function, and the interaction between parent and child during the massage can stimulate the child’s mental faculties as well, resulting in increased mental capacity.

You may want to give it a try and give your own judgement. Do let your little one enjoy the massage session :) !

****** By Mommy ********
For the past three weeks or so, before i stripped my baby for her morning bath, she will engage herself in this weird routine. She raised one of her legs, and it goes “shake shake shake shake” for about five seconds. Very amusing to the adults’ eyes. After some weeks, her movements weren’t so jerky anymore, she started doing leg raise. These daily activities really looked silly and funny to me until recently, i realized she was doing them for a reason. She has been practicing rigorously for this stunt called “roll over”! She can’t really roll over yet, could only roll over from her back to her sides. Babies, we don’t really need to train them, they will roll and crawl and stand and walk when they know they are ready.

Bare bottom

by Mommy on 18/01/08

Lately, I have this feeling that the poor baby is very uncomfortable being wrapped up in her diapers. I almost could feel the heat and itch the diaper caused her. So I decided to air her bums and let her goes bare bottom after her morning bath. This should be good for her skin.
I thought I am being clever, but the project ended up in a mess. For two days, the same thing happened. She decided to wee wee during her bare bottom time, thus wetting her whole body. Thank goodness it didn’t get into her mouth. Luckily I anticipated this scenario and protected her play mat with a rubber sheet, else I would have more washing up to do. Maybe I need to let her pee prior to letting her goes bare bottom.

mittens and brighter child

written by Mommy on 18/01 /08

As a typical anxious mom, I have been deligently reading books on parenting. My lastest baby manual, “How to Raise a Brighter Child”. Yah, I am on my way into raising a super baby….haha.

Anyway, it enlighted me in quite a few ways. For example, it believes that “developmental landmarks in early childhood can be speeded up by changes in the environment….major gains can be achieved by relatively small changes in an infant’s surroundings.”. I begin to review my baby’s environment and her daily activities. Feeding, diaper changing, cuddling, some playing. I realised my baby’s hands are still mittened ( which is a grieve mistake according to the book, since “baby needs great freedom and opportunity to touch, to move about, to manipulate objects…..from constricting clothing and from a confining bassinet.”), and most of the time, I only watched her play.

So I decide to do a small experiment. Her mittens were removed. She is still placed on her gym playpen with some toys hanging above her, but this time, I guided her hands to reach out to bat the objects and opened her hands to let her touch and feel them. Interestingly, she started paying much more attentions to the hanging objects, and her fist wasn’t tightly clasped anymore. On the second day, she begin kicking excititngly when I laid her onto the playmat, before her usual staring and uncoordinated hands movement. About a week has passed with this daily activity (which I myself am getting bored with), something remarkable happened today. She stared intensively at the hanging toy for a minute or so, then reach out her hand and bat at it. This was repeated a few times until her started to feel tired, perhaps frustrated and begin crying again.

Now I am convinced that stimulation does speed up a child’s development. But to what extent should I push her to her next developmental milestone. Should I interfere with the child’s natural development at all? Do I really want to give the child a good head-start, or am I just anxious to satisfied my own ego. I guess !

I can ..

I have decided to let my folks know that I can smile, coo, and gurgle.
Not too much though, so I get what I want when I do those things. Adults are so easy to train!
I can also flip over from my stomach to my back. Mommy put me on my belly for my daily exercise, but I showed her! Don’t mess with a 12 weeks old !

Pacifier ??

When will my parents learn?
My folks bought me a pacifier but I was not fooled.
Every time they pop it in my mouth, I give it one or two obligatory sucks and then spit it out. You can’t fool me!
No “diet nipple”! No artificial ingredients or coloring!
Give me the real thing! Heh-heh!

I wrapped her up with sleeping sack like a "cocoon".

And she gave me a cheeky smile

And she really fell asleep! She nap for about 45 minutes in this position. Not bad....just gotta make sure you use a very thin layer of "wrapper" otherwise she will be too hot! Try it, it works!

Do you like my Crew cut? ..

January 6th, 08

Today, Daddy reminded Mommy to trim my marvellow curly hair as it's getting long and making me sweaty. Not that Mommy wanted an easy way out; she thought of sending me to hairdresser ; just it's "hassleless" to both. But Poh Poh said not to spend unnecessary money oo.. so she decided to be my hair stylist. *Wink*

Poh Poh started having me make-over. Earlier was pretty enjoy as Daddy was carrying me.. I never "yai yai" , however, as i was so eager to see how my new hairdo like?! I felt impatient! ( But i didn't cry)

After a few minutes..

Guess what! I turned out to be so FUNNY after the cut! *slap head*Mommy "complimented" on my hair by saying " Wow Zoe, you received a hair cut from Trevor Sorbie huh!!"

A few years back TY and I decided to follow the tradition that whatever happens on the first day of the new year will happen the rest of the year. Therefore we always aim to enjoy our very first day of the year; while also trying to ensure that the small luxuries of life continue to come our way to a fulfilling year. Luckily, the three of us were in good health today; and this year Ty and i feasted on tasty Italian Meal with family members and made deposits into our bank accounts for the "good fortune". Whatever works, right ?

Zoe, on the other hand, should look forward to a year full of good eating, good sleeping and good playing. The most important is growing up healthy! Oh yeah.. and 365 days of looking cute in her adorable wardrobe of clothes, and with us around company her through all her growing.
